Abstract

Background: Preeclampsia has remained a public health threat in both developed and
developing countries contributing to maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality globally,
Kidney injury with proteinuria is a characteristic feature of preeclampsia, yet the nature of
injury in specific regions of the nephron is incompletely understood Aim and objectives: The
aim of the present study is to evaluate the role of kidney injury molecule-1 as a biomarker for
predicting kidney injury in preeclampsia, Subjects and methods: This is a case control study
was carried out at the department of obstetrics and gynecology, Minia maternity university
hospital during the period from September 2018 to March 2019, the study was conducted
on 90 patients were be enrolled in to the study and divided into two groups, Results: the
results of the study revealed that there is high significant correlation between kidney injury
molecule -1and severity of preeclampsia, Conclusion: there is an increase in the urinary level
of kidney injury molecule-1 in PE, implicating their possible value as biomarkers of kidney
injury,
