-Abstract
Aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of a linguistic competence-based program in developing the skills of some writing modes and reducing writing anxiety of the preparatory language school students. Sixty 1st year preparatory language school students participated in the study. They were selected and randomly divided into three groups (two experimental and one control). The experimental groups were taught through the linguistic competence program; whereas the control group was taught through regular ways. Instruments of the study were the writing skills questionnaire, the writing anxiety scale and the descriptive and persuasive writing rubrics. Data statistical analysis revealed that the experimental groups outperformed the control group in the post writing test and the writing anxiety scale. Accordingly, teachers can implement the linguistic competence to improve the students' writing skills and reduce their writing anxiety.
