This research leads to the question: to what extent can cultural indicators assist poetry in
elaborately creating or setting certain scenes? It is a thought-provoking question that tempts one to
unintentionally yet willingly deviate from the conventional standards usually dictated by the nature of the
discipline. That is why the term 'critical attempt' is included in the title.
Through a cultural perspective, this research employs the linguistic and visual factors to investigate
the role of the imaginative constituent of poetry using a scene-based approach. In this research, a specified
number of definitions of some of the main terms included in the title of the text were used, and a
traditionally common text was analyzed to serve as an introductory clarification.
This research uses two texts to prove its hypothesis. The first text, written by the poet Alaa
Abdelhady, was studied to conclude the role of visual cultural indicators in creating and setting the scene
in a text by discussing the relationship between the photograph he had used in place of the title and the
content and structure of his poem. The second text, titled Al Ashea' (the scan) and written by Helmy
Salem, was also used to study the linguistic and cultural factor and its role in creating the scene in a text.
Both of the aforementioned examples were studied as following: A discussion of the meaning and
significance of the included definitions relying merely on their linguistic indications, followed by an
analytical and deductive read of the texts and finally interpreting the meanings implied by the cultural
indicators and assessing their role in creating the scene in the texts.
