Abstract

Lately, significant amendments to the Penal law was introduced in Jordan, the magistrate courts Law, and the Jordanian criminal procedures law. This paper reports the results of a questionnaire survey that sought to support the findings from a legal analysis which have answered the research question “What are the perceptions of Jordanian Lawyers towards redistribution of criminal jurisdiction in courts?" The methodology adopted allowed the researcher to make descriptive inference that can lead to determining the weaknesses of the legal infrastructure. The results have shown that it is critical for the Jordanian legislator to understand the expansion of the criminal jurisdictions of the magistrate courts. Such a development requires increasing the number of magistrate courts and increasing the number of officials in the magistrate courts. In addition, there is a need to hold edification courses on the development of contemporary criminal policy in Jordan for judges, lawyers, and court officials.
