Abstract

The study aimed to identify the level of self-concept of the students of the seventh and ninth grades in the
Sultanate of Oman, as well as whether there is differences in the dimensions of this concept according to gender and
grade. The study sample consisted of (374) pupils of these pupils (199) students from Grade 7 (97 males and 102
females) and 175 from grade 9 grade (94 were male and 81 females). The self-concept scale (Kahali, 2005), was
applied consisting of 51 item divided in 4 dimensions: (student dimension includes 17 items), teacher dimension
consists of (10) items, the family dimension includes (10) items and the fourth is colleagues dimension and includes
(14) items. The data was analysed by the use of means and standard deviations and analysis of variance, and the
results indicated a high level of self-concept among the sample of the study. There are no statistical significance
differences attributed to the gender and grade . This may be due to the fact that the family and the school play a
positive role in promoting the self-concept among the children and help them to build up positive self-concept,
especially the early stages of development. The results were discussed in the light of the results and conceptual
framework.
