Abstract

The global economic crisis and the Covid-19 pandemic represent a great burden on all countries of the world, especially developing countries that have worked to overcome challenges and difficulties through development plans, including tourism development as one of the important sources of national income. Heritage and cultural tourism is considered as one of the most important and attractive types of tourism all around the world, especially for countries that possess valuable heritage and historical components
Therefore, the research focused on the importance of preserving and developing heritage sites as one of the important axes of the tourism development process and tourist attractions, through monitoring and analyzing both the Egyptian experience (as a local experience) - represented by Luxor development project - and the Saudi experience (as an Arab experience) - represented by Al-Ula development project - as pioneering experiences in dealing with the issue of tourism development based on the development of archaeological and heritage sites
Where Egypt aimed to restore its leadership as a major sustainable tourist destination, and to enhance the country's national economy, through the optimal use of heritage and archaeological components, as well as natural and human resources. While the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia aimed to search for new axes of tourism after it was limited to religious tourism for many years. By analyzing and evaluating both experiences, it was possible to propose a comprehensive methodology for tourism development based on developing and preserving heritage and archaeological sites.
