Abstract

Heritage villages are a national wealth because of the cultural,
historical, economic and social values they carry, which can be
considered a human memory or a witness to a distinguished era in the
life of any village. Especially in the tourism industry because of the
economic returns it achieves. However, this cultural heritage is
exposed to many human and natural factors and other factors that
contribute to its deterioration.
The problem of the research is that the rehabilitation policies of
heritage villages are one of the effective methods of preserving
cultural heritage. Despite this, many of the experiences of preserving
heritage villages lack a holistic view of conservation and sustainable
development, as these programs focus on the restoration and
maintenance of the physical urban structure without highlighting
Social and economic values and environmental considerations. As a
result, many of the heritage resources in the countryside are suffering
from deterioration, rather they are depleting many sources of funding
without achieving economic returns that positively reflect on the
villagers or contribute to achieving sustainable rural development,
whose modern concept must expand to include achieving social,
economic and environmental balance, along with along with
preserving heritage and cultural values without maximizing one side
at the expense of the other.
The research paper aims to shed light on the evaluation of the
experience of reviving and rehabilitating models of heritage villages
registered on the World Heritage List, to examine the possibility of
benefiting from them as a guiding model for the sustainable
development of heritage villages.
