Abstract

The study aimed to analyze the reality of homework in the basic education schools in the Sultanate of Oman and to develop a proposed concept for the development of creativity in homework practices in light of the experiences of some countries. To achieve the objectives of the study, the methodology of procedural research and the use of focus groups was used as a tool for data collection. The sample of the study consisted of three categories: parents, teachers, and students. They were divided into three focus groups and the sessions were conducted for each category separately, each session lasted between 45 minutes for students to an hour for parents and teachers. The study questions were limited to two main questions: What are the reasons for the students' reluctance to perform homework? What are the proposed solutions to motivate students to perform homework?
The data for the three focus groups were analyzed and the most important issues raised by the participants were identified. Each question was analyzed individually to gain access to information related to this question and reinforce this information with excerpts from the participants' statements, and then discuss the results in the light of data from the focus groups and the results of previous studies and theoretical literature. One of the most important findings of the research in the reasons for the reluctance of students from homework not to take into account the questions of individual differences between students, and the lack of clarity of instructions for these duties, as well as the presence of many distractions in the home, and the lack of family support for the student and the large number of duties that take the student time and deprived her of Practicing play and entertainment, the study recommends the codification of questions and be appropriate in terms of quantity and quality of female students.
