Abstract

The study aimed to identify the role of social networking sites in the development of intellectual security from the point of view of Umm Al Qura University students. The descriptive approach was used. The study population consisted of students of bachelor's degree in the two tracks (scientific and human), 360 of them were retrieved, and the researchers considered that they were sufficient for the application. The researchers adopted the questionnaire as a data collection tool. After the statistical analysis, the results of the study showed that:1. The most social networking network used by the sample is Snape Chat followed by Instagram and YouTube.2. The most common devices used to access these sites are (smart phones).3. The time spent in the daily use of social networking sites (three to six hours) per day according to the opinion of the sample.4. The most prominent motives for the use of social networking sites for students was to know the current events locally. Followed by entertainment, entertainment and fun, then dialogue and exchange of views with others.5. The most important factors that may threaten the intellectual security in the sites of communication are the excesses of religion and the distance from the moderate middle curriculum.6. The best methods that can be used to develop intellectual security from the point of view of female students are: Activate the supervisory role by the CITC, in cooperation with the competent authorities.7. There are no statistically significant differences due to the study variables between the sample responses on all the study axes.
