Man has always derived many creative ideas and symbols from the 
cause of his existence in the world. The search for the truth of 
existence and its realization is an urgent desire, even if it is hidden 
behind the crowds of life, and the visual arts have had the effect of 
asking various questions about the nature of existence and how to 
represent it. Existence and other concepts associated with it, such as 
birth and death, so man collides with the idea of annihilation and 
nothingness; Feelings such as fear and desire are formed, each is the 
opposite of the other, but they represent historical stages and moments 
in human life, as well as his motives and judgments. The aesthetic 
judgment here was not limited to pleasure as a standard of taste and 
judgment, but the feelings of despair, pain, fear and alienation became 
a standard for beauty, so darkness and ugliness were no longer a 
scourge to evade Including the artist, but at other times he goes 
towards it and creates special aesthetics from it.
Therefore, this study aims to clarify the ontological dimensions in the 
works of the artist Odd Narderem, through an interpretive approach 
that relies on the interpretation and interpretation of symbols in his 
artworks, with the aim of revealing other possibilities for meaning, 
according to the ambiguity that accompanies the symbols, as it does 
not reveal their meanings directly.
