Abstract

The study aims at identifying the potentials of increasing the volume of
trade exchange especially agricultural crpos between Egypt and Nile Basin
countries through studying the production and consumption of food in these
countries for the most important agricultural groups and market capacities for
crops and agricultural products which represent opportunities for the development
of agricultural trade between Egypt and Nile basin countries, and how to transfer
the surplus of these crops and agricultural products to increase the volume of trade
exchange. The Nile Basin countries, including Egypt, produce many agricultural
groups such as cereals, pulses, vegetable oils, vegetables and fruits. The rates of
self-sufficiency vary from one country to another and vary from one group to
another. The study recommends expanding Egyptian foreign trade with Nile Basin
countries where crops such as rice, dry beans, onions, tomatoes, green beans,
oranges, grapes, frozen vegetables, dry vegetables, molasses and potatoes can
decrease the deficit of the basin countries, and crops and products such as sesame,
coffee, tea, tobacco, corn flour and bran, can fill the deficit of Egypt, where the
large surplus of it in Nile basin countries. COMESA can be a starting point for the
development of trade relations with Nile basin countries through the inclusion of
other countries in the Free Trade Area and taking Sudan as a transit gateway for
Egyptian products to the markets of Nile Basin countries.
