Rompun (Xylazine) was tried on 24 buffaloes in four dose rates (0.02, 0.03, 0.07 mg. kg. B. Wt.). The onset and duration of the sedative effect of the drug as well as the clinical signs were recorded. Several increased dosages of Rompun were adminstered. The best effective and safe dose was found to be 0.03 mg/kg. b.wt. Animals became docile after 15 minutes and showed calmeness and were easily examined for 85 minutes. The temperature of the animals was increased after injection, while pulse, resp < /strong>iration and ruminal move ment were decreased.
