Abstract

Twenty-five healthy pigeons were exposed to other pigeons infected with Aspergillus fumigatus. Contact infection occurred and lesions developed in the test pigeons in the digestive tract and were primary lesions due to infection by ingestion. Hepatic lesions such as liver cell necrosis and bile duct epithelium hyperplasia indicated that the fungus was highly pathogenic for this species of birds.
