Abstract

The research mainly aimed to develop the values of citizenship among rural youth in North Sinai Governorate, and this goal was achieved through the following sub-objectives: Defining the concept of citizenship from the point of view of rural youth, describing the levels of citizenship values among rural youth, identifying the factors associated and specific to the values of citizenship among rural youth. Determining the obstacles to developing the values of citizenship, and the elements of developing the values of citizenship from the point of view of the rural youth surveyed. This research was conducted in three centers in North Sinai Governorate, which are the largest centers in terms of the number of rural population, and from each center the largest village in terms of population was selected. The sample size was determined according to Stephen Thompson's equation, and accordingly, the sample size was 183 respondents who were distributed to the three villages according to the percentage of each village's representation in the overall study. The data was collected using a personal interview questionnaire form during the months of January, February, and March 2021. Some statistical methods were used in analyzing and presenting the results, including numerical and relative frequencies, reliability coefficient, simple correlation coefficient, and standard partial regression coefficient in explaining and interpreting the results.
The study reached many results, the most important of which are the following:
1- The respondents mentioned twelve concepts of citizenship from their point of view, and the most frequent and approved concepts by 89% of the respondents is that citizenship means the participation of young people in the public activities in the village.
2- The level of values of citizenship was average for all the four studied citizenship values, as well as the total degree of citizenship values ​​among the respondents, where there are 53% in the average level of the value of community affiliation, 58.47% of the value of rights, 55.19% of the value of duties and commitment to them, 44.26% of the value of participation in Society matters, 52.46% of the total degree of citizenship values.
3- The variables of age, number of years of education, security status, adherence to the local community, degree of interest in societal issues, satisfaction with the local community, and leadership behavior are related to the level of citizenship values with a positive moral relationship at the 0.01 level, while the citizenship valuesare associated with a negative relationship at 0.01 with the level of 0.01 Ambition and cultural openness while not associated with standard of living and adaptability.
4- The results of multiple linear regression showed that the independent variables together explain about 56.6% of the total variance in the level of citizenship values among rural youth, and the most important of these variables were: age, number of years of education, level of ambition, security . 
 
status, adherence to the local community, and degree of interest community issues, community satisfaction, and leadership behavior.
5- The study identified thirteen obstacles that impede the development of citizenship values among young people, and the most important and unanimous of all respondents was 100% the obstacle of unemployment prevalent among young people, while the youth respondents suggested twelve elements or suggestions that help develop the values of citizenship among young people and through which they can be overcome. On the obstacles that impede the development of citizenship, the most important of these ingredients and what was mentioned by about 98% of the respondents was the proposal to provide suitable job opportunities for young people
