Abstract

The study aimed at the efficiency of using sun energy in plant production in the regions of one and a half million feddans in the Farafra Oasis, facing the problem of the high costs of using diesel-powered irrigation in production and switching to the use of solar energy, By studying the current situation of electricity production from new and renewable energy sources in Egypt, studying the economic efficiency of using solar energy in plant production, estimating the environmental cost of using irrigation systems in plant production, and identifying the most important problems of using solar energy in the Farafra Oasis.
                The study reached a set of results, the most important of which is a decrease in the costs of irrigation using solar energy on the crops of the study sample compared to irrigation with diesel energy, an increase in the net return in the case of solar irrigation compared to the diesel energy in the study sample for crops wheat, barley, sugar beet, alfalfa, potatoes, peanuts, date palm by about 40.5%, 28.2%, 12.7%, 44.9%, 7.4%, 11.4%, 13.9% respectively, and the use of solar energy in plant production in the Farafra region led to a decrease in the amount of carbon dioxide emissions compared to the case of using diesel energy by about 94.37 thousand tons. Which led to a decrease in the environmental cost of treating these pollutants by about 1.09 billion EGP.
                The most important recommendations were to increase the facilities granted to investors to obtain loans for the use of solar energy for plant production, implement a series of indicative seminars on solar energy to increase the awareness and knowledge space among investors, and the most important problems of using solar energy in plant production in Farafra In the decrease in the efficiency of operation and water flow in the winter by about 20-30%, with a relative importance of about 73.8%, the costs of establishing a solar energy unit for owners of small and medium spaces increased with a relative importance of about 54.1%.
