تتبلور مشکلة الدراسة في محاولة الکشف عن الدور الذي لعبه المسرح والسينما في مصر في تناول أهم القضايا والمتغيرات الاجتماعية الناتجة عن تطبيق سياسة الانفتاح الاقتصادي، ويهدف البحث إلى إلقاء الضوء على دور المسرح في تصوير الواقع المصري في ظل تطبيق سياسة الانفتاح الاقتصادي، کذلک التعرف على کيفية معالجة الأفلام والمسرحيات المصرية للواقع الاجتماعي خلال فترة تطبيق سياسة الانفتاح الاقتصادي وبعدها، وتتمثل أهمية الدراسة في الوقوف على أهم الاعمال السينمائية والمسرحية التي تعاملت مع مرحلة اقتصادية هامة وکان لها تأثير واضح على المجتمع المصري في السبعينيات.
