Aim: The aim of this review is to provide the orthodontist with collected information about the indications, contraindications, timing of distalization, and to have a comprehensive view of the commonly used intraoral molar distalization appliances regarding their design, distalization efficiency, and the resulting loss of anchorage.
Method:The Pubmed and Google scholar were searched for articles about extraoral Headgear appliance, Jones Jig appliance, Pendulum appliance, Distal Jet appliance, NiTi open coil spring, First class appliance, Kele slider appliance.
Conclusion:Maxillary molar distalization is an effective way of gaining space in cases with mild to moderate arch length deficiencies. Most tradiditionally used intraoral maxillary molar distalizers cause anchorage loss in terms of maxillary premolar mesialization and increased anterior overjet with variable amounts.
