Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the concentration of hepatocyte growth factor in the gingival crevicular fluid of chronic gingivitis patients. Patients and Methods: A total of twenty patients were selected and grouped as follow; group I included ten chronic gingivitis patients and Group II included ten systemically and clinical periodontal healthy subjects. Hepatocyte growth factor concentration was measured in gingival crevicular fluid samples which ‎‏were collected from the study group and control group. The GCF samples were analyzed using ELISA method to evaluate HGF concentration.   Results: Analysis of hepatocyte growth factor in gingival crevicular fluid at base line showed significantly higher levels in patients of chronic gingivitis as compared to the controls. Conclusion: Hepatocyte growth factor may be considered as a potential diagnostic biomarker for assessment of periodontal disease activity in GCF.
