Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the concentration of hepatocyte growth factor in the gingival crevicular fluid of chronic gingivitis patients.
Patients and Methods: A total of twenty patients were selected and grouped as follow; group I included ten chronic gingivitis patients and Group II included ten systemically and clinical periodontal healthy subjects. Hepatocyte growth factor concentration was measured in gingival crevicular fluid samples which were collected from the study group and control group. The GCF samples were analyzed using ELISA method to evaluate HGF concentration.
Results: Analysis of hepatocyte growth factor in gingival crevicular fluid at base line showed significantly higher levels in patients of chronic gingivitis as compared to the controls.
Conclusion: Hepatocyte growth factor may be considered as a potential diagnostic biomarker for assessment of periodontal disease activity in GCF.
