Objective: The aim of this review was to evaluate the deproteinizing effect of sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) and hypochlorous acid (HOCl) agents on bonding of self-etch adhesives to dentin. Also to conduct a meta- analysis to quantify the difference in mean microtensile bond strength (μTBS) in previously published studies.
Methods: An electronic search was performed using Scopus, PubMed and Sciencedirect .The reviewed studies were subjected to meta-analysis for quantifying the differences in deproteinizing time between NaOCl and HOCl deproteinizing agents .
Results: The meta-analysis outcomes from the reviewed studies revealed that the lowest μTBS was recorded with dentin pre-treatment by NaOCl agents, while, the highest μTBS was recorded with dentine pretreatment by HOCl agents.
Conclusions: It was found that pretreatment of dentin by HOCl agents improve the bond strength of self-etch adhesives to dentin in comparable with NaOCl agents.
