Abstract

Objective: To determine whether any differences exist between normal occlusion and different malocclusions in an Egyptian sample with respect to anterior and overall ratios according to Bolton by using E1 3Shape laser scanner.
Methods:A total of 160 study models were selected (40 sets of normal occlusion and 40 sets for each malocclusion)at the orthodontic department.Measurements were performed on digital models by 3D laser scanner with OrthoAnalyzer software (3Shape A/S). The differences between groups were analysed by means of one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) (P< 0.05).
Results:No statistically significant differences were found in anterior
and overall ratios between normal and different malocclusion. The P value for the anterior and overall ratios was 0.11 and 0.08 respectively.
Conclusion: no statistically significant differences in the anterior or overall ratio between normal and different malocclusion groups. Bolton's values can be confidently applied in an Egyptian sample.
