Aim: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the efficacy of mangiferin as local treatment adjunctive to scaling and root planning in comparison to chlorhexidine as a gold standard drug used in chronic periodontitis cases.
Materials and Methods:split mouth design was established upon 15 patients where one side was randomly assigned to chlorhexidine and the contralateral side for mangiferin. The treatment included scaling and root planing and insertion of the studied drugs in test/control sites. PI, GI, SBI and PPD were recorded at baseline, 2weeks and after one month of treatment.
Results:Both side showed enhancement after therapy. There were no significant difference between mangiferin and chlorhexidine as adjunctive treatment. Where P value for PI, GI, SBI and PPD was 0.712, 0.758, 0.731 and 0.955 respectively.
Conclusions:mangiferin may act as a siutable substitute for chlorhexidine as adjunctive therapy
