Abstract
Objective: This study was conducted to investigate the effect of resin cement type (Conventional MDP free and MDP containing resin cement) on bond strength to cubic zirconia.
Materials and Methods: Fourteen zirconia plates with dimensions (10mm width×5mm length×2mm thickness) were prepared from slicing Bruxzir anterior blank, Then sintering to all the specimens was done. All the samples were sandblasted using 50 µm alumina particles. The specimens were allocated to 2 main groups (A& B) according to the resin cement type (Conventional MDP free and MDP containing adhesive resin cement). Acrylic resin bases were fabricated to hold the zirconia plates. The bonding procedures were done according to the manufacturer's recommendations. All the samples were stored in a special closed container containing distilled water at 37 ºc for 1 week in an incubator. Shear bond strength test was done using the universal testing machine for all the specimens. The mode of failure was detected using a digital microscope. Data obtained were evaluated statistically.
Results: Two-way ANOVA test results showed that MDP containing resin cement (15.88 MPa ±3.94) had a higher bond strength value than conventional MDP free resin cement (14.53 MPa ±2.75) yet the difference was statistically non-significant (p=0.531). All groups showed adhesive failure.
Conclusions: Both types of resin cement (Conventional MDP free or MDP containing adhesive resin cement) reacted almost equally when used directly on zirconia.
