شهد العالم اليوناني والروماني أمثلة على علاقة حب دفعت زعيم الدولة إلى القيام بخطوة عسکرية أو سياسية غير محسوبة، فکانت خطوة إذعان لميول امرأته المحبوبة سواء أکانت معشوقته من غير زواج کما في حالة الزعيم الأثيني بيريکليس ومحظيته أسباسيا، أو زوجته الثانية کما في حالة الملک البطلمي بطلميوس الثاني وأرسينوي الثانية، أو زوجته الأولى کما في حالة الملک النوميدي سيفاکس وسوفونيسبا؛ خاصة وأن الثلاث نساء کانوا يتمتعن بدهاء وذکاء سياسي. تتناول الدراسة القرارات السياسية التي اُتخذت خضوعًا لرغبة المرأة المُلحة والتي تخدم نزعتها دون أية اعتبارات لحاجة الدولة لمثل تلک الخطوات في ذلک التوقيت تحديدًا، مما سيکون بالطبع لها أثر على حياة الزعماء السياسية.
