Background: Resveratrol (RV) is a widely-known polyphenolic chemical found in many plants, including berry, peanut and grape fruits. It is well known for its association with numerous health benefits, including glucose metabolism optimization, anti-obesity, cardio protective, neuroprotective, anti-cancer activities, antiaging and neurodegeneration prevention. These promising therapeutic effects are controlled by a number of interconnected mechanisms that regulate oxidative damage, cell death and inflammation. As a result, it is possible that RV might be regarded as a great nutraceutical and pharmacological therapeutic supplementary medication. Objectives: This review would broaden understanding of RV and motivate researchers everywhere to take RV into consideration as a pharmaceutical treatment to treat and protect against numerous diseases in the future.
