From the first appearance of Sustainable Development approach and its applications in urban development (Green Cities, Eco-Cities, Sustainable Cities), a number of countries worldwide succeeds in achieving good results in this area, as other countries did not succeed in achieving the same results because of many challenges and problems. In this context, this paper seeks to identify the main constraints and challenges facing these countries in this regard, and to establish a set of general frameworks that enable these countries to achieve sustainable cities.
The paper relies on five main steps, which are together forming an ascending research line. This line starts with the first step which focuses on paper introduction including research problem description, objectives and the importance of research, research borders, and methodological procedures. The second step is to adjust the research key concepts and terms. The third step focuses on the assessment of the current situation of developing countries' cities in the light of the basics of sustainable cities. The fourth step is to identify challenges facing developing countries in achieving sustainable cities. The fifth step relates to draft a general framework that enables developing countries to bring about sustainable cities.
