Abstract

Congenital inguinal Hernia (CIH) is a common diagnosis among the pediatric population and inguinal hernia repair is one of most common procedures performed by a pediatric surgeon.
Metachronus Congenital Inguinal Hernia (MCIH) occurs frequently and as laparoscopic repair gains fame, the possibility of repairing the MCIH in one sitting is becoming popular. Ultrasound plays a great role in detecting contralalateral inapparent hernia since it is real time, safe and non-invasive.
AIM OF THE WORK
Aim of the study was to assess the role of preoperative ultrasound in pediatric patients emphasizing contents, complications, and associated findings, status of testes and the accuracy of ultrasound in detecting a contralateral inapparent hernia
PATIENTS AND METHODS
Thirty pediatric patients with unilateral complain of inguinal bulge were recruited at the Shatby University Hospital. Preoperative ultrasound was performed after which the patients were scheduled for a laparoscopic hernia repair in which a contralateral exploration was simultaneously performed.
