Abstract

• Genetic skeletal dysplasias (osteochondrodysplasia) are broad groups of hereditary disorders characterized by abnormal growth and malformations of cartilage and bone manifested by generalized skeleton abnormalities in form of abnormal bone shape, size and density which manifest as abnormalities of the limbs, chest, pelvis, or skull.
• The radiologic evaluation is one of the corner stones for reaching a diagnosis. It begins with a complete skeletal survey ideally comprising of a set of radiographs then using a systemic approach comprising of anatomical localization, analysis of bones and assessment of complications.
• This study is a simple practical radiological approach where only few radiographs are obtained to diagnosis common dysplasias and some of the rare ones. The pelvic radiograph is commonly included in radiographic skeletal survey and therefore it may serve as the first evidence of skeletal dysplasia rather than a full skeletal survey which may be a financial burden on some of patients.
