Abstract

• Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a sight-threatening complication of diabetes and is known to be the leading cause of blindness.
• Fluorescein angiography is one of the most important tools for evaluating diabetic retinopathy.
• The peripheral retina is the site of many diabetic retinopathy lesions, Therefore evaluation of the retinal periphery is important for screening, diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of DR
• Conventional (FA) covers retinal area of 30°- 60° in one exposure. Hence it is a time-consuming procedure to angiograph the retinal periphery and it depends on patient`s cooperation and operator`s expertise.
• Recently, Heidelberg Spectralis ultra-widefield angiography module was developed and it consists of an interchangeable noncontact 102° lens that attaches to the camera head to provide high-contrast, undistorted and evenly illuminated 102° images in one exposure and at the same time point.
Aim of the work:
• The aim of this study is to compare the HEIDELBERG SPECTRALIS Standard field 55° lens and UWF 102° lens in diagnosis and evaluation of severity of DR and detection of new vascularization.
