Abstract

Pancreatic lesions specifically the malignant ones have been estimated to be one of the leading causes of cancer death worldwide. Among other reasons, the poor survival rates results from late diagnosis.
Distinguishing the site, size, consistency, type, vascularity, infiltration to nearby organs, lymph node involvement of pancreatic lesions is the righteous approach to properly manage this lesion.
To properly investigate pancreatic lesions many laboratory tests and radiological instruments has been developed through the last few decades, including but not limited to multi-slice abdominal CT imaging, MRI, MRCP and EUS with or without FNA or FNB.
Since its early development in the late 70s, EUS has been developing as a diagnostic tool and its use has progressed in the early 90s to tissue sampling and biobsy, later on advances has been made introducing therapeutic uses of EUS as EUS-guided injection of antitumor agents in pancreatic cancer and EUS-guided tumor ablation.
Many studies were conducted worldwide demonstrating EUS abilities in diagnosing pancreatic lesions and comparing them to other imaging modalities trying to improve the daily practice of management of pancreatic diseases and malignancies.
