MORPHOLOGICAL AND TAXONOMICAL STUDIES ON FAMILY NEMESTRINIDAE, ORDER DIPTERA IN EGYPT

Abstract

The present study includes morphological and taxonomical studies on family Nemestrinidae (Order: Diptera) in Egypt and the results as follow:          - A morphological study of Nemestrinus aegyptiacus (Wiedemann, 1928) using as a model showing the diagnostic characters of the family Nemestrinidae such as: abdominal color and wing venation.                                                                                                         - A Taxonomic revision of the family Nemestrinidae including valid names, synonyms, descriptions, drawings, taxonomic key, geographical and local distribution of each species. N. abdominalis Olivier, 1811 and N. fascifrons Bigot, 1888 are placed as new synonyms to N. ater (Olivier, 1811), as well as N. ruficornis Macquart, 1840 is resynonymized with N. rufipes (Olivier, 1811). Also Nemestrinus jullieni Efflatoun, 1925 is confirmed as a synonym to N. aegyptiacus (Wiedemann, 1828). In addition, three species N. caucasicus (Fischer, 1806), N. pallipes (Olivier, 1811) and N. persicus Lichtwardt, 1909 are excluded from the Egyptian fauna.
