Abstract

Strawberry charcoal rot caused by the fungus Macrophomina phaseolina is one of the most important diseases. The current work was designed to survey of the disease in different locations in Beheira Governorate, Isolation, purification and identification of the causal organism. Pathogenicity test, varietal susceptibility, biological and chemical control investigated. Results showed that the disease was found in 37 from the selected sites. Seven isolates of M. phaseolina and Eight isolates of the Trichoderma spp. were isolated from different regions. The isolates were three isolates of T. viride, three isolates of T. hamatum, on isolate of T. harzianum and one isolate of T. koningii. Varietal susceptibility showed that 029 cv. give the lowest susceptibility to the disease, while Festival was the most susceptible. Rhizolex-T and Sendo were more effective fungicides by 80%, and 60%, while Ridomil Gold Plus was the least effective one by 10% of survival plants. The highest percentage of inhibition of pathogen growth was obtained by the pesticide Rhizolex -T gave a 96.67% inhibition of the pathogen followed by Sendo, which gave 95.56% while Ridomil Gold Plus was the least one by 43.06% under laboratory conditions. Under laboratory and under greenhouse conditions the highest inhibitory rate of M. phaseolina isolates (1 and 3) by T. hamatum (1), while T. harzianum showed the least inhibitory effect. Trichoderma hamatum (3) was the highest inhibitory against M. phaseolina isolate (6) while T. harzianum was the least one.
