Abstract

The characteristics of both the discharge below silled-sluice gates and the formed
hydraulic jump are discussed briefly and equations are developed for their prediction. Both
cases of free and submerged flow are considered. The predictions are based on large series ofexperimental
data that are conducted on a laboratoiy flume. In case of submerged flow, tliree
flow regimes are considered, namely, sub-critical flow, critical flow and supercritical flow. For
each flow regime, discharge coefficient prediction equation is developed. Also, the discharge
coefficient and the hydraulic jump properties are predicted for supercritical free flow regime.
The hydraulic jump properties include the sequent depth, length ofjump, and energy loss ratios.
Nonlinear regression analysis is used to find the best predictors to both discharge coefficient and
jump characteristics. Comparison between developed equations, and experimental data are
made. Good agreement is obtained
