A total of 2342 crossbreed cattle were clinically observed from May 2008 to April 2009 for BVD clinical cases. Animals were examined in two farms in Dakahlia and Damietta Governorates with a history of BVD infection. 124 clinically diseased animals out of 2342 were examined for respiratory manifestation, enteric manifestation (diarrhea) and congenital anomalies. Out of them 46 (37.1%) suffered from cough, serous to mucopurulent nasal discharge and dyspnea, 26 (20.1%) suffered from enteric problems, 28 (22.6%) suffered from mixed respiratory and enteric manifestations and 22 (17.7%) suffered from infertility troubles. While the congenital anomalies were recorded in 1.6%. There was a significant difference P < 0.01 in the prevalence of BVD infection at different ages. the higher rate of virus isolation observed in age under 2 months, followed by age 2-4 months with 84.62%, while, the lowest percentage of virus isolation occurred from 9-12 months with 50%. There was a significant differences P < 0.0001 in the prevalence of BVD infection at different seasons thus, the higher virus isolation observed in summer season. Serological survey of sera identified BVD virus Genotype I in 28.75% and BVD virus genotype II in 11.25%. We concluded that, BVD virus is one of the most important pathogen causing economic losses in cattle. The age and seasonal variations were important risk factors in the prevalence of BVD infection.
