Abstract

Two hundred quails with age ranging between 7 days to 6 months old were collected from different farms at Dakahlia, Port Said and Kafer El-Sheikh Provinces. The main causative bacteria included Escherichia coli in 125 cases (62.5%), Clostridium colinum in 36 cases (18%). Coccidiosis the main protozoal disease in 36 quail samples (18%), besides nematodes (Ascaridia galli) in two quail (1%) and cestodes in one quail (0.5%). The histopathological findings in E. coli were either catarrhal bronchopneumonia, or serofibrinous pneumonia fibrinopurulant air sacculitis, fibrinous pericarditis and perihepatitis. The intestine of quails infected with an aerobic bacteria revealed necrotic enteritis with coagulative necrosis of the liver and kidneys. Hemorrhagic enteritis CHARacterized by bloody intestinal contents with coccidian stages were the main lesions of coccida in small intestine. Large intestine of some cases showed sloughed or necrotic villi in severe infestation. Mild coccidial infestations of intestinal gland were recorded. The carcasses of dead quils appeared anemic and emaciated with presence of worms (Ascardia galli) in small intestine which sometimes resulted in obstruction of its lumina beside catarrhal enteritis. Quail cestodes mainly located in the middle portion of the small intestine and induced necrotic enteritis.
