Abstract

Six mares and a she dnnkey suffering from third-degree rcctolvestibular lacerallons had been admitted in the Surgery Clirtic. Facully of Vetennary Medicine, Mansoura University. These injurtes occurred during parturition associated with dystocia.SiX oj these animals were primiparous and a mare was multiparous. Surgical corrcetion of theselacerations.were performed through a single-stage repair of the modified Goelz technique byinterrupted six-bile vertical rnttress paLlem using fXJlydioxanolle monoflIament syntlletic absorbable suture male/tal (PDS, Ethiconl). Primary healing of the reconstrucled recioveslibular shelves and perineal bodies were occurred in 6 animals although a mare showed a remarkable anal sphincter incompelence while dehiscence of the reconstructed rectoveslibular septum with intact perineal body was recorded in a mare owing to sever post•operative straining resulting in a reclovestibular fislula formation. The oblained results indicated that swgical intetjerence of third-degree reclovestlbular lacerations should be postponed up lo 5-7 weeks after initial injuries
