Abstract

The Arab Region suffers from a state of unrest in many of its countries nowadays. In one week, there was Churches bombings in Egypt, Chemical attacks in Syria, continuing of fighting in Iraq between the international alliance supporting the Iraqi troops and the Islamic State (IS) militants to restore the city of El Mosul and for the first-time disagreements break between Golf countries. This paper aims at analyzing the editorial and visual frames used to report three of the most significant events that took place in the area in regional and international news channels in both Arabic and English. The events under study are the Palm Sunday church bombing and mosque attack in Egypt and the GCC conflict. All available Arabic and English reports from Al Jazeera, BBC and CNN news channels on you tube concerning these incidents and its consequences were analyzed. The research had three main findings. First, the three channels used responsibility frame in all the incidents under study. They gave meaning to the incident by placing the blame of the conflict on specific entities. Second, there is evidence that supports the claim that visual material is used to entice feelings and these feelings are directed by the text (audio) accompanying the visuals. Third, results indicate that global channels do follow the official policy of their country of origin in framing conflict in the Middle East
