Empowerment of women and its impact on legislation

Abstract

If the concept of the empowerment stems from the general hypothesis that there is a qualitative gap between women and men in all aspects of life, which lead to keeping women's creativity and survivals in shadow, nevertheless, it is expected that through women's empowerment, this qualitative gap could be minimized. For achieving empowerment, we should be working towards increasing women's awareness of their rights. Although the concept of empowerment is a modern one, as it appeared in the 70's, its roots belong to a far distanced period. The history of the Egyptian women's movement bears witness to this. The current research paper sheds light on the socio-historical path of the emancipation of Egyptian women, as it chronicles the main stations that constituted a quantum leap in women's participation in education and in professional work in various sectors, and liberation from the cultural legacies that restricted their freedom and their contribution to the renaissance of Egyptian society.
