Mechanisms of Transformation to Produce the Polymer Banknotes as an Alternative to Paper Banknotes in the Arab Republic of Egypt

Abstract

The need for Banknotes is in demand in societies even after the mechanisms of transactions in banks and credit cards have been developed. Money industry has gone through a variety of materials such as leather, shells, metal, cotton paper. The first  Paper banknotes in Europe were issued by the Bank of Stockholm in 1661, and have remained for centuries, and with modern developments in the world of technology, polymer Banknotes appeared in Australia in 1988, providing new security features and a longer lifetime in circulation, as it is environmentally friendly. Since Egypt is switching to the production of polymer Banknotes, This study has aimed to study the mechanisms of switching to the production of polymer Banknotes as an alternative to paper Banknotes to find out the most important modifications required by both printing machines and inks used for printing on polymer material, as well as modifications to existing ATMs to awareness of its specifications and the most important security features.The researcher followed the descriptive analytical method to achive the research goal, and the study resulted in that there is no change in the printing stages between polymer and paper, except for two steps, the first is the addition of a hologram and the Second is applying a protective varnish on both sides of the currncy, and there is no change in the composition of inks at all stages of printing except intalio with decreasing the depth of drilling cells, as for counting machines and ATMs, the machine is provided with a program that carries all the specifications of the design and security features of the currency, and the questionnaire resulted in the acceptance of the people for the polymer currency. The study suggested that the issuing authority should raise awareness of the currency's superiority in terms of shape, material, texture and insurance signs Before putting it into circulation and making studies of the changes that occur in the currency to estimate its actual age and sustainability in circulation also issuing new savings cash denominations
