Manufacturing has made significant contributions to global development, but it also causes large amounts of energy and resources to be wasted, as well as serious environmental pollution. Therefore, the life cycle of products must be studied, which facilitates understanding the environmental impact and footprint that goes beyond product performance. And as sustainability represents a general trend in the design process of various fields, and an urgent necessity that must be achieved and taken into account in the design for the life cycle of products, and from here the research problem was found, which is concerned with knowing the scope of the designer's influence in the design stages of the life cycle of products and their relationship to sustainability, especially in the design of artificial lighting units because of their importance and high usage, as the research aims to adopt the concept of sustainability through design in the life-cycle of products in general, and in the case of artificial lighting units in particular, and the importance of research lies in clarifying the importance of design for the life-cycle and its relationship to sustainability, emphasizing the importance of the designer's role in design for the life-cycle of products in general, and focusing on the stages of the life-cycle of lighting units and their evaluation, and the research methodology follows the descriptive and analytical approach. The research results are presenting the scope of the designer's impact on the sustainability of the product life cycle through recycling, re-manufacturing, and converting products into services, and identifying the stages of the life cycle of lighting units, and their evaluation in terms of inputs and outputs.
