Abstract

A lot of scholars who studied the problems of society realized the importance of starting from an understanding of family issues and their influence in this stage, and studies have shown that most psychological problems of children relate to the family in the first place, and the parents' adopting of patterns characterized by violence and cruelty and the practice of oppression on children that will generate undesirable behaviors, such as the problem of alienation. Parents and educators look at the youth stage with interest and concern, which may sometimes reach the level of anxiety due to the accompanying problems, whether for the youth themselves or for their families. This phenomenon increased among university students as they bear the greatest burden in the development of society in various fields, and therefore the current research aims to study the relationship between family leadership styles and psychological alienation in a sample of university students, and the study sample consists of (220) male and female university students, from rural and urban areas, and from different socio-economic levels. The research tools consists of the general data form for university students, the questionnaire of family leadership styles in its three dimensions, and the psychological alienation questionnaire in the four axes. After collecting these data, they were classified and the appropriate statistical parameters have been conducted using the spss program to reach the results, and the research has followed the descriptive and analytical approach. The most important findings were the existence of statistically significant negative correlative relationship between family leadership styles with their three dimensions and psychological alienation with its four axes  for the university students,  which means the more the family follows positive leadership styles in dealing with its children, the less they feel of psychological alienation. There are statistically significant differences between male and female university students in the total family leadership styles in favor of females. There are statistically significant differences between male and female university students in the total psychological alienation in favor of males, there are no statistically significant differences between working and non-working mothers of university students in both the total family leadership styles, and the total psychological alienation.
Through the study, a set of recommendations were presented, the most important of which were: the need for psychological counselors to provide psychological counseling to students and help them overcome problems, working on educating parents about ways to deal with children according to different developmental stages, taking into account individual differences, and working on raising the student's confidence in himself and others, in order to reduce alienation, using modern means and methods, with entertaining and scientific goals.
