Abstract

The aim of the research is to achieve the best standards of sewing double cloth in order to improve quality, efficiency and appearance of the product by examining the effect of some sewing techniques. Stitches were used (301, 516), seams were (superimposed seam SSA-1, Frenchseam SSA-2, English seam LSC-2), three stitch densities (3,4,5) stitch/cm and the grain line of the fabric was ( warp- weft – bias). Procedure: laboratory tests were carried out (seam strength, seam elongation, seam efficiency, seam stiffness and seam appearance. Results: The study reached the following results: There was a statistically significant effect of stitch and seam type on the seam properties. However, there was no statistically significant effect of the seam density on the seam properties of the research fabrics at all fabric directions. For the direction of warp grain: The best seam properties were resulted from lock stitch 301, superimposed seam (SSA-1) and stitch density of 5 stitches / cm. For the direction of weft grain: The best seam properties were resulted from lock stitch 301, superimposed seam (SSA-1) and stitch density of 4 stitches / cm. For the direction of bias: The best seam properties were resulted from lock stitch 301, superimposed seam (SSA-1) and stitch density of 5 stitches / cm.
