Abstract

This research investigates attempts to identify some of the methods of quilting used in decoration in order to overcome the technical defects that occur during the machine embroidery on the industrial leather materials and identifying the aspects and shortcomings which may result from the wrong choice of the type of quilting and the type of interfacing  material , stuffing material and choice of  the best method for the machine embroidery on industrial leather  materials, with the aim to produce a high quality product capable of global competition. The problem can be formulated in the following questions:  1- What are the different methods of quilting used in clothing and leather products?2 - What is the effect of the method of quilting on the embroidery appearance of the industrial leather subject to the study?    Objectives: 1 - Studying the different methods of quilting used in the manufacture of clothing and other products and the effect of the different methods of quilting on the embroidery appearance of industrial leather and also determining the appropriate Type of stuffing for the appearance of machine embroidered quilting of leather.Methodology:This research follows the descriptive and laboratory experimental methodology. Results:  The study concluded the following:  As for the first leather material: (1) The net quilting gave the best results for the embroidery appearance of the first leather material (A), followed by the free quilting and then the decorative quilting.(2)The material (A) which is characterized with (low elongation and thickness), so it does not fit the ratio of the height of fiber stuffing with embroidery. It is preferable to embroider quilting in all its methods using foam stuffing. (3) The non-adhesive interfacing gave the best results for the appearance of the embroidery for the first leather material (A). - As for the second leather material:  (1) material (B) characterized with (high elongation - medium thickness), gave the best results for the appearance of embroidery with the net embroidery, followed by free quilting and then decorative embroidery.(2) The use of sponge stuffing is better than fiber stuffing because of the low level of quilting, because the fiber stuffing is not characterized by the resilience of sponge stuffing when exposed to pressure during the process of embroidery, which affected the height of quilting.(3) The use of adhesive interfacing increases the drop of quilting during the use of the iron, whether for the sponge stuffing or the fiber stuffing for all different methods of quilting, which causes a bad appearance of the embroidery for the second leather material (B). - As for the third leather material:(1) material (C) characterized with (medium thickness – high elongation), gave the best results for the appearance of embroidery with net quilting, and gave fairly satisfactory results for decorative quilting and free quilting.(2) It is preferable to use a sponge stuffing to embroider the different methods of quilting, because the fiber stuffing causes a decrease in the height and the emergence of quilting.(3) The use of adhesive interfacing led to the occurrence of rubber appearance and bulging during the embroidery, causing a scuff or wrinkle around and inside the embroidery area. In addition, the non-adhesive interfacing gave the best results for the appearance of embroidery.
