Abstract

Applying the concept of sustainability is unavoidable to meet the needs of the present while preserving the right of future generations to energy and natural resources. The greatest challenges facing contemporary architecture have been to absorb the requirements of sustainable development and preserve the local environment. The concept of sustainability is not considered a new or innovative term but rather a concept embodied by heritage architecture in various parts of the world since ancient times through spontaneous experimental compatibility interconnected with the environment and efficient exploitation of natural environment sources, and housing in Islamic architecture is a good example of sustainable design starting from the integrated planning of the site and the provision of spaces Green outside and inside the building and benefit from the construction partly under the ground and moisturizing the air through the optimum thermal performance in the inner courtyard. As the trend in sustainable architecture for the use of natural materials worked to direct architects to use ceramics as the organic nature of the material, which does not result in any damage to the environment, recent years have witnessed a strong tendency to use architectural elements in the ceramic material that have become of great importance in architecture using standardized pieces Interconnected or create new architectural elements to meet design requirements in terms of the organic nature of the material, which achieves the principles of sustainability, hence this study has provided designs for architectural ceramic units inspired by elements in Islamic architecture that achieve sustainability with a view to developing and mixing these principles with modern technologies and use in our contemporary architecture And our housing now and in the future to meet the challenges of contemporary architecture to accommodate the requirements of sustainable development and preserve the local environment and environmental impacts.
