The main problem of this research is the question: "Is the industrial designer, with his current culture, skills and experience, able to face the futuristic changes and challenges in the design field or do we need to prepare an industrial designer with new culture and experience?
The research aims to determine the requirements necessary for preparing the futuristic industrial designer in the light of the modern changes and challenges in the design field. In order to achieve this goal, the search uses analytical methodology through the analysis of "design concept" as a multi-disciplinary activity that no longer deals with form and function, but as it has to cover a broader set of prospects. "Industrial design concept" as a creative activity aims to determine the formal qualities of objects produced by industry; these include characteristics and features of the external relations of structural and functional system, which turned into a cohesive unit, both from the standpoint of the producer and the user.
It also deals with the analysis of the current industrial design education at schools, institutes and industrial design colleges, where studies have shown that it lacks the balance between the theoretical study and design practice. Nevertheless, the design during the previous decade passed through significant changes and shifts, education has not kept pace with these design changes and new transitions, where the students still learn design ways and methods of the old system even though they are changed markedly in terms of both design methods and techniques. Norman stressed that although there is still a need to preserve the classical industrial design approach, we need a new generation of designers on a high level of knowledge about science and technology, peopl and society, and We need a new form of design education, with more rigor, more science, and more attention to the social and behavioral sciences, to modern technology, and to business.
The main recommendations of this research emphasize on; the necessity of developing education curricula in schools, institutes and colleges of design in accordance with the modern changes; the training of industrial design students to practice design in all fields, and related disciplines during their studies; following-up the graduates of institutes and colleges of industrial design in the labor market to identify their problems and needs and supplying them with all new areas of science and design; establishing communication and cooperation links between industrial design institutes and colleges and all relevant fields to design and develop a product or service; the development of industrial designer cultures, experiences and skills through scientific sessions and workshops for designers in industrial companies and institutions for modern technological variables and finally the industrial designer's follow-up study of what's new in the field of information technology and novel sciences is requested.
