Abstract

Despite the importance of the olive harvest in the governorate of North Sinai, this crop is characterized by low production efficiency in light of the age of olive trees and the presence of local varieties characterized by low productivity, as well as the relative importance of olive harvest of the total area cultivated in the governorate despite the appropriateness of the Sinai environment to expand its cultivation And increased productivity. The study aims to study the global situation of olives by reference to the situation in Egypt, as well as to identify the current status of olive production in the province of North Sinai, and the results confirmed that Egypt is one of the olive producing countries, as well as the first countries exporting olives with a relative importance of about 48.8% of the world's exports. As for the relative importance of the area of olive yield fruit within the governorates of the Republic during the average period (2011-2014). It is clear that the area of olive fruit outside the valley amounted to about 64.9 thousand acres, with a relative importance of about 46.9%, compared to about 58.6 thousand feddans within the valley, with a relative importance estimated at 42.3%. The North Sinai Governorate ranked first in terms of productive area, which amounted to 28.2 thousand feddans, with a relative importance of about 20.4%. As for the current status of the olive crop within the governorate of North Sinai, where the growing area grew from 26.8 thousand feddans in 2010 to 50.1 thousand feddans during 2014. It is also found that El-Arish occupies the first place in terms of area planted with an average of about 14.1 thousand acres, with a relative importance of about 34.7% during the same period.
