Abstract

In light of contemporary building laws and legislations in Egypt, the architectural designer does not have the ability to produce sustainable buildings due to the strict restrictions imposed by these laws and legislations on architectural thought, but in light of understanding how Islamic architecture has achieved the principles and basis of sustainable design it become possible to add or amend some texts of the current building legislation in order to achieve the basis of the design sustainability of buildings, this research is an attempt to formulate a legislative agenda for sustainable design, using Islamic architecture as a guide to achieve contemporary  sustainable architecture in Egyptian.
