Programmable Protection of Industrial Lead Acid Battery Supplied by Solar Cells Array.

Abstract

Proposed protection system based on programmable intelligent microcontroller (PIC) suitable for lead acid battery connected to solar cells array is designed and operated. brain of the designed protection system. The system design is based upon measured parameters known as battery voltage set points. These points are determined by measuring experimentally the electrical behavior of the battery to be protected. The proposed protection system composes of three comparators, six normally off transistor circuits, PIC chip, and the output stage which contains two transistor circuits as well as two relays. Proposed strategy for the operation of the protection system is carried out to protect the battery against overcharge and over discharge. The paper presents the accurate operation of the system according to the proposed operating strategy. It presents also the proposed truth table which defines the PIC operation.
