Abstract

In this study, a case study on Taba 5000 m3/day RO desolation plant is carried out. Actual measurements over 15 months in 2012 and 2013 have shown that the actual plant capacity ranges between 2370 and 3700 m3/day because one unit is out of order. Experimental tests were carried out to investigate the influence of brine discharge on water salinity at 11points around the discharge. The temperatures at these points are also measured. Measurements are taken for zero, 20 and 50 m discharge pipe length inside the Aqapa Gulf in front of the plant. Results have shown that salinity increases at brine discharge point to 50226 ppm TDS and temperature to 29 C and decreases gradually elsewhere. When the discharge pipe increases to 20 m length, the salinity decreases to 40196 ppm. Temperature also decreases to 28 C. When discharge pipe increases to 50 m length, salinity decreases to 38346 ppm. Temperature is also decreased 27 C. the Dilution factor decrease from a hire value of 2.2 to a lower value 1.02 when the discharge pipe increases from zero length to 50 m and depth 4 m respectively. The measured values of PH are around 7.3. Results are shown in graphical form.
