Objective: The aim of this meta analysis study is the change in calcium, phosphorus , 25-OH vitamin D₃ , alkaline phosphatase  and parathyroid hormone level among children with B-thalassemia major.
Subject and Methods: The study group consisted of forty β-thalassemia patients , their ages ranged from 12-18 years and control group of forty healthy children. Inclusion criteria patients were diagnosed as  β-thalassemia  major depending on regular blood transfusions and blood samples were withdraw just pretansfusions. The results of serum total  calcium , Ionized calcium , phosphorus ,alkaline phosphatase and serum parathyroid hormone were evaluated in both group.
Results: the mean serum total calcium  (8.9 ­­­­­± 1.3 mg/dl) was non significantly lower among β-thalassemia patients than control (9.1­­­­­± 0.7 mg/dl). Phosphorus (6.6 ­­± 2mg/dl) and serum 25-OH vitamin D₃ (12.9 ­­­­­± 4.5 ng/ml) were significantly  lower among  β-thalassemia patients than control (23.8­­­­­± 10.5 ng/ml)  .Serum parathyroid hormone  (26.8 ­­­­­± 6.5 pg/ml) was significantly lower among β-thalassemia patients than control (31.9­­­­­± 5.2 pg/ml).
Conclusion: there were significant negative correlation between serum parathyroid hormone and both alkaline phosphatase  and  ferritin and a significant positive correlation between serum parathyroid hormone and 25-OH vitamin D₃
